What is the difference between an IATA and an ICAO code?

IATA codes are the three-letter codes you see on tickets and luggage tags (LHR, JFK, DXB), assigned by the airline industry. ICAO codes are four-letter codes used by pilots, flight plans and air traffic control (EGLL, KJFK, OMDB). Every airport page here shows both. Read the full guide.

How accurate are the direct-flight destinations?

Route lists are adapted from Wikipedia's airline and destination tables, which are maintained under a strict sourcing policy and refreshed here monthly. They show which routes exist, including seasonal ones; always verify days and times with the airline before booking.

Why do some airports share a code with their city?

Many IATA codes are metropolitan codes: LON covers all London airports, NYC covers the New York ones. Individual airports keep their own codes (LHR, LGW, JFK, EWR). Our lookup always resolves to the specific airport.

Where does the data come from?

Airport records come from OurAirports, a public-domain dataset maintained by a global community since 2007. Routes are adapted from Wikipedia (CC BY-SA). Both are refreshed monthly on our servers; nothing is queried from third parties when you search.

Is there an API?

Yes, a free JSON API: airport lookup by IATA or ICAO code, search, and direct-route lists. No key, no registration, fair-use rate limits.
